Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the
Historic Seattle-Everett Interurban Railway
11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Heritage Park, 19903 Poplar Way, Lynnwood
Step back in time with the Alderwood Manor Heritage Association for refreshments to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Seattle-Everett Interurban Railway and meet Cheri Ryan and Kevin Stadler, authors of the newly released book “Seattle-Everett Interurban Railway.”
You’ll be able to climb aboard the City of Lynnwood’s restored 1910 Niles Trolley, “Car No. 55” and view photos of this historic railway.
Starting on May 2, 1910 and operating for 29 years the Seattle-Everett Interurban Trolley traveled over 29 miles of rail carrying passengers and freight to nearly 30 stops long its line. Alderwood Manor (much of current day Lynnwood) was the mid-point stop on the Interurban line and benefited from the trolley bringing potential land buyers to the area as well as transporting freight, including eggs, between Everett and Seattle.
When the trolley line ceased operation in 1939 the rails were removed and the land was converted to a power line corridor for Snohomish County PUD and Seattle City Light. Starting in the 1990s, sections of the right-of-way opened for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Snohomish and King Counties, along with the cities of Everett, Lynnwood, Mt. Lake Terrace, Edmonds, Shoreline, and Seattle have worked in a partnership to create a trail along the route of the Interurban.
To date the majority of the trail has been completed and is open for use. Maps of the Snohomish County portion of the trail will be available on May 2nd or can be found at Snohomish County Parks.
Questions can be directed to Alderwood Manor Heritage, 425-775-4694.
